About Gemini Notebook
Gemini Notebook is Google's AI research and note-taking tool. You add your own material, such as documents and notes, and ask questions that it answers from those sources. It can also find new sources through Source Discovery or Deep Research, and turn your material into Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Slides, Flashcards, Reports and Infographics.
Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook on 16 July 2026. It remains a standalone product, and notebooks created in the Gemini app now sync with it. Google has also announced native code execution for data analysis inside notebooks, available first to Google AI Ultra users and some Workspace customers.
It is free for personal use, with up to 50 sources in each notebook. Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra raise the usage limits and the number of sources per notebook, up to 600 on Ultra. Organisations can use it through Google Workspace, Workspace for Education or Google Cloud. Public sharing is only available on consumer accounts.
Our take
- Good for
- researching from your own documents, with answers tied to your sources.
- Skip it if
- the material is confidential and you have not checked how your account handles data.
- The catch
- privacy rules differ between the notebook itself and chats about it in Gemini, and between personal and work accounts, and limits depend on your plan.
Checked . Plans and limits change, so confirm them on the vendor's site before you buy.
