About OpenAI Dots
OpenAI Dots are always-on agents inside ChatGPT. You give a dot a goal, share the context it needs and choose what it may do on its own, and it keeps making progress between conversations instead of waiting for the next prompt. Each dot has its own cloud computer and a browser, starts from your ChatGPT memory and learns how you like to work.
A dot works across the apps you connect through ChatGPT's plugins, can run reminders and recurring checks on a schedule, and can be reached from messaging channels such as Slack. You review its activity under in progress, scheduled and completed work, give feedback, change direction or pause it at any time. Access to your own computer is optional and starts switched off, and a dot can hand coding work to Codex.
OpenAI announced dots on 29 September 2026 and is rolling them out gradually. As of October 2026 they are available to Pro users outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK, and to Business Premium users in all supported regions. Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare workspaces can try a beta once an administrator turns it on. The first dot is included in the plan, and you create it in the ChatGPT desktop app or on desktop web.
Our take
- Good for
- an always-on ChatGPT agent with its own computer that keeps working between chats.
- Skip it if
- you are on a free, Go or Plus plan, because it is not included.
- The catch
- it comes only with higher paid plans, extra Dots are not priced yet, it was not offered on Pro plans in the EEA, Switzerland or UK at launch, and usage terms after the first month are unpublished.
