About Midjourney
Midjourney is an AI image generator that turns written prompts into images, and can animate them into short video clips. It started on Discord and now also runs as a web app, where you can create, organise and edit your work.
As of October 2026 the default model is version 8.2, which added an Edit model that replaces the older Omni Reference, Character Reference and Retexture tools. Style controls, personalisation and image prompting let you steer a result towards a consistent look.
There is no free plan. Paid plans differ by the amount of fast GPU time they include. Relax mode, which gives unlimited images at a slower pace, is available from the Standard plan, and Stealth Mode, which keeps your work private, is limited to the Pro and Mega plans. Midjourney's terms require companies above a stated annual revenue threshold to use the Pro or Mega plan for commercial work.
