About OpenCode
OpenCode is an open-source agent that helps you write code in your terminal, in your IDE or on the desktop. It is maintained by Anomaly and is free to use, either with the models it includes or with your own.
It supports more than 75 model providers through Models.dev. You can connect models such as Claude, GPT and Gemini, or sign in with a GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT Plus or Pro account. OpenCode Zen is a paid offering that gives access to a set of models chosen and benchmarked for coding agents, and a plan called Black is also mentioned. The pages checked did not give prices for Zen or Black.
Our take
- Good for
- developers who want a free, open-source coding agent in the terminal that works with the model providers they already use.
- Skip it if
- you want one bill and a managed service with no keys to look after.
- The catch
- the agent is free but you pay your model provider for what it uses, its optional Zen service is prepaid credit, and its privacy claims come from summaries, so read its own policy.
