About Claude Code
Claude Code is a coding agent from Anthropic. It builds a plan, writes code, runs tests and opens pull requests. It handles routine work such as bug fixes and testing, and longer tasks such as refactors and migrations, and it can map and explain an entire codebase and work across several repositories at once.
You can use it in the terminal on macOS, Linux and Windows, in VS Code and JetBrains IDEs, in the browser at claude.ai/code, in the Claude desktop and mobile apps, and in Slack. It connects to command-line tools, version control and deployment platforms, supports MCP servers and GitHub Actions, and offers Projects for grouping related sessions and supervising several agents. Self-hosted environments are in public beta.
Claude Code is included with paid Claude plans: Pro for short coding sprints, Max 5x for everyday use in larger codebases, Max 20x for power users, and Team and Enterprise plans for organisations. It is not included on the Free plan.
Our take
- Good for
- developers who want an AI agent working in the terminal on real codebases.
- Skip it if
- you want a code editor with the AI built in, or you are on a free plan.
- The catch
- on paid plans it shares one usage pool with Claude chat, limits are not published and reset on a rolling window, and heavy use can mean a higher tier or pay-as-you-go billing.
Checked . Plans and limits change, so confirm them on the vendor's site before you buy.
