About Devin

Devin is an autonomous software engineer made by Cognition. You delegate an engineering task and Devin works on it in the cloud or locally, tests its work in its own browser and aims to produce a pull request that is ready to merge. It can start its own Windows, Mac and Linux virtual machines and works with Slack, Teams and Jira.

The Devin family includes Devin Cloud for delegating work to cloud agents, Devin Desktop for working with agents locally, a command-line tool, Devin Review for code review and vulnerability detection, Deepwiki for mapping and documenting a codebase, and Security Swarm for scanning for vulnerabilities and performance problems. Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf, and windsurf.com now redirects to it. It includes tab completion, a full code editor and the ability to manage fleets of local and cloud agents.

There is a free plan with a light quota. Pro adds higher quotas, all models and cloud agents, Max is for heavy use, Teams adds collaboration, central billing and an admin dashboard, and Enterprise adds SSO and optional VPC deployment. All paid plans include Devin Desktop, and extra usage can be bought at API rates. Devin's site lists SOC 2, ISO 27001 and FedRAMP compliance.

Our take

Good for
well-defined coding tasks such as bug fixes, small features, upgrades and code migrations.
Skip it if
the task is vague or open-ended.
The catch
it is billed by the work it does, so cost is hard to predict before a task runs, and independent tests of early versions found it failed on many tasks, so review everything it produces.

Checked . Plans and limits change, so confirm them on the vendor's site before you buy.
