About Vapi
Vapi is a developer platform for building voice AI agents that handle phone and web calls. You pick the transcriber, the language model and the voice, connect telephony, and Vapi runs the call, with unlimited agents on every plan, testing and simulation of calls before they reach customers, and monitoring of issues.
Pricing is mostly usage based. A hosting fee is charged per minute, and the models are billed at the providers' own rates with no markup, with example providers on the pricing page including Deepgram for transcription, OpenAI for the language model and ElevenLabs for voice. Vapi telephony and WebSocket transport are free, while Twilio, Vonage and Telnyx charge their own rates. New accounts start with a small credit.
Optional success packages add support and limits. Core suits early teams and Pro suits scaling teams in production with role based access and a service level agreement, while Premier adds named support and single sign-on. HIPAA handling is available as a paid add-on.
Our take
- Good for
- developers building voice agents that make and take phone calls.
- Skip it if
- you want one flat price, or a no-code tool.
- The catch
- the platform fee is only part of the bill: speech, the language model and telephony are billed separately, so the real cost per minute is several times the headline rate.
