About Canva
Canva is an online design platform used for presentations, social posts, documents, video and print. Its AI tools sit inside the editor, so you can generate images and video from text, write copy with Magic Write, edit photos with Magic Edit, Magic Eraser and Magic Expand, and resize a design for other formats.
Canva also offers an AI assistant for design tasks in plain language, text to speech voiceover, an AI music generator, translation and Canva Code for building small interactive apps. Leonardo.Ai, an image and video platform, is owned by Canva and its models feed into these tools.
There is a free plan, and Pro and Business plans add premium content, brand controls and a larger AI allowance. Enterprise is priced on request. Pricing on the Australian site is shown for annual billing per person, and an add-on called AI Pass raises the AI allowance on Pro and Business.
Our take
- Good for
- making designs quickly from templates, with AI tools for images, video and writing.
- Skip it if
- you need heavy image generation on the free plan.
- The catch
- all the AI tools draw from one shared monthly allowance, so heavy use can run it out fast, and plan details differ between sources.
